Golden Regiment Marching Band

The Golden Regiment operates during the fall and combines the Wind Symphony, Symphonic Band, Concert Band, Percussion and Aviance. The Golden Regiment has received many awards and accolades over the years consistently earning straight Superior ratings at all festivals and competitions it attends. Most recently, the Golden Regiment was the Grand Champion Band at the 2010 Southern Showcase of Champions and the 2010 Kingdom of the Sun FMBC Regional. The Golden Regiment ended its marching season by winning 1st PLACE at the 2010 State Marching Band Championship Semifinals earning the Best Music, Best Visual, and Best GE Caption Awards and being named 2010 State 2nd Runner-up Marching Band at the FMBC State Marching Band Championship Finals with its strongest performance of the season!

Wind Symphony

The Buchholz Wind Symphony has earned a reputation as one of the finest symphonic organizations not only in Florida, but in the United States. It is comprised of the most advanced musicians in the band program and performs sophisticated literature. Membership is based on audition and director recommendation. The Wind Symphony consistently earns Superior ratings at the district and state levels, receiving Florida's Otto J. Kraushaar Award every year since 1999. This ensemble has been selected to perform at several prestigious conferences including the 2002 CBDNA/NBA Southern Regional Conference, the 2002 Midwest Clinic, the 2009 New York Wind Band Festival held in Carnegie Hall and the 2009 Midwest Clinic. Most recently, the Wind Symphony was selected to perform at the 2012 National Concert Band Festival!

Symphonic Band

The Buchholz Symphonic Band is comprised of those advanced musicians in the band program not yet to the Wind Symphony level and performs Grade IV and V literature. Membership is based on audition and director recommendation. The Symphonic Band consistently earns Superior ratings at the district and state levels. Most recently, the Symphonic Band earned straight Superior ratings and the Otto J. Kraushaar Award at the 2011 State Music Performance Assessment.

Concert Band

The Buchholz Concert Band is comprised of the younger musicians in the band program and is designed for the development of basic fundamentals, technique, and musicianship skills. Placement within the ensemble is based on audition and director recommendation. Most recently, the Concert Band earned straight Superior ratings at the 2008 and the 2009 FBA District Music Performance Assessment and received straight Superior ratings at the 2009 State MPA - the first time in FBA history that the Otto J. Kraushaar Award was given to a school's 3rd band!

Jazz Band

The Buchholz Jazz Band provides an opportunity for students interested in performing music in the jazz idiom. Emphasis is placed on development of swing, latin, rock, and contemporary styles of repertoire and performance. Jazz combos are formed from within the Jazz Band and perform at functions and FBA Music Performance Assessments. The Jazz Band and its combos consistently earn Superior ratings at the district and state levels.

Percussion, BDL, IMPACT Indoor Percussion, Steel Drum Ensemble

The Buchholz Percussion Techniques class is offered as a year-long course and is required for all percussionists in the band program. Emphasis is placed on the development of rudimentary skills, drumline performance, concert percussion performance, and steel pan instruction. Students are required to participate in ensembles that are formed within the class to perform at Solo & Ensemble Assessments and recitals. All percussionists are assigned to one of the three Concert Ensembles and rehearse with their respective groups after school.

Aviance Visual Ensemble

Aviance is the multi-faceted auxiliary unit of the Golden Regiment. This highly disciplined group also performs as a competitive unit separate from the band at Regional, State, and National Dance Team Competitions. Aviance is consistently ranked in the top few teams at all levels of evaluation.

Individual Musicianship

Individual musical development is an essential part of the Buchholz Band Program. In addition to large group performances, many students participate in Solo and Ensemble Assessments, perform in local recitals, and study privately. Numerous students are selected each year for participation in the Alachua County Honor Band and the Alachua County Youth Orchestra, as well as the Florida All-State Bands and Orchestras.

Otto J. Kraushaar Award
The Florida Bandmasters Association gives its Otto J. Kraushaar Award to high school band programs which receive straight Superior ratings at all marching and concert performance assessments at both the district and state levels throughout an entire year. The Buchholz High School Band Program has earned the Kraushaar Award every year since 1999.



Sudler Flag of Honor
Gladys Stone Wright, representing the John Phillip Sousa Foundation, presented the Sudler Flag of Honor to the Buchholz Band Program at a concert in April 2003 in the University of Florida's Phillips Center for the Performing Arts. The Buchholz High School Bands joined 51 other elite band programs which have received this international award recognizing high school concert bands which “have achieved and maintained a high standard of excellence in the concert area over a period of several years.”



National Wind Band Honors
The Mark of Excellence recorded music contest offers bands the unprecedented opportunity to earn national recognition for their musical achievement. The Buchholz Wind Symphony has earned the National Wind Band Honors Award every year since the award's inception in 2006.
